Acts 2:41-47
About
three thousand people believed in Christ as their Savior as a result of Peter’s
preaching. They began devoting themselves to: 1) the apostle’s teaching, 2)
fellowship, 3) the breaking of bread (i.e. the Lord’s Supper), and 4) prayer
(Acts 2:42). They were sharing their
material goods and helping each other as needed, and were meeting and sharing
meals “from house to house” (Acts 2:44-46).
It is important to realize that what we read in Acts is descriptive and not
prescriptive. As an historian, Luke
reveals what happened in the early church, but does not prescribe it as a model
to be forced upon churches everywhere.
